4.6 billion years ago...

What it looked like when the moon was made 4.6 billion years ago. In 3D, and with modern cities etc to better show scale.

This is a simulation of an asteroid hitting Earth, which then made the Moon. It was produced by the Japanese equivilent of the BBC as part of a TV documentary. The audio is in Japanese, but clicking the ‘more’ link to the right of the video itself will display the translation for you to read. A truely awesome sight.

I am of the increasing impression that the Japanese are just awesome. That video was about 17 times better than Armageddon and Deep Impact played simultaneously. They should slow mo it down even more, show a bit more of American cities being obliterated just for fun and release it as a movie… complete with the Japanese narration as well.
