Democracy Player
Democracy Player is a free application that turns your computer into an internet TV video player. [It is available] for Windows, Mac, or Linux.
Our source code is licensed under the GPL and is available at our development center. Open standards like RSS and Bittorrent mean that our technology is open for everyone to read and implement and is compatible with other standards based efforts.
This of it as iTunes but for video. As an added benefit it plays back pretty much every video format known to man, thanks to it using VLC as it’s core video engine. I’ve only just started using it, so I can’t tell you how well it works - but it sure sounds good. And not a million miles away from Joost.
I’ve been pointed at http://tvrss.net/shows/ to try with the player too. I’m unsure of the legality of that though, so have a nosey at your own discretion.
